Frequently Unasked Questions:Q. What is a job?A job is basically an exchange of skill and effort for currency. In some cases the measurement of skill and effort is based on hours worked, and those employed in this way are called hourly workers or contractors. In other cases skill and effort is not measured, these permanent employees are given a guaranteed salary. Contrary to what the term permanent implies, in both cases the majority of jobs are actually at will, which means that either the employee or the employer may terminate the relationship at any time, for almost any reason.
It should be noted that it is the employer that invokes at will termination in the vast majority of cases.
Q. Can you help me write my resignation letter. We can do no better than offer Richard Nixon's resignation letter as an example. If you are particularly lazy, you can simply print it out and using a Sharpie marker, cross off the parts that don't apply to you and write in your own information. What better way to show you really care than to use the actual text of the most famous resignation letter in history.
Q. I don't have a job. What can I do
to help? There are three ways you can help Quit Your Job Day. All three are vital to spreading the ideas and ethos that embody QYJD.
The first way you can help is to download the flyers from the download section and spread them to workers you know and generally get the word out that Quit Your Job Day is coming and people should get prepared.
The second way is much harder. Get a job. Any job will do. A corporate cafe, a department store, a web design sweat shop. These jobs are easy to get, but more importantly they are easier to quit! As an insider you can spread the wisdom of quitting and your impact will be that much greater.
The third way is to donate through PayPal. We could really use the money (we quit our jobs last Monday).
Q. I've just quit my job, now what do I do.First go to the forum and let everyone know how you did it. Nothing is more inspiring than hearing the success stories of people who have quit their jobs. There you may also find suggestions of what to do after quitting your job. We're certain there are things that you've wanted to do that having a job has interfered with, so do those things. Eventually you'll probably need money for something, so updating your resume or register for a DBA. Ideally you should be looking for a job you actually like or working for yourself.
Q. Are you Communists? (Socialists, Marxist, Stalanist, Maoist?)Far from it. We're actually Libertarians in favor of an individual's free right to self determination. In that regard we believe everyone should think for themselves and join our cause.
