When is Quit Your Job Day?

Monday, September 8th, 2008 is the second Monday in September and as such is the international "Quit Your Job Day" day. We would have made it the first Monday in September, but that day has already been selected by some bizarre Aermican holiday called Labor Day. While it appears that the two movements share a rich commonality and a natural synergy that could combine both into a potent force for the public good, most Americans are off having picnics on Labor Day. (Making it impossible to quit their jobs that day.)

However September 8th is very close to Labor Day. And it's still a Monday.

It's the day selected that the largest number of people will simultaneously quit their jobs to maximize the positive effects that Quit Your Job Day will have on the international economy, personal finance, social change and, of course, the children. If you had to pick just one day this year to quit your job, it would be September 8th, 2007.

"Today would be a great day to quit your job!" No, really. Right now. Quit your job. You won't believe how incredibly good you'll feel right after you quit. Like the weight of expectations from dozens, hundreds or even thousands of thankless corporate drones has been lifted from your shoulders. The day will literally be yours to seize. Often people walk for hours in an intense state of heightened awareness at the idiosyncratic nuances that fill this beautiful world. The way that cracks in a sidewalk can resemble the profile of old friends or the sound of leaves rustling in the wind resembles the ocean waves of the Atlantic. So everyday is a Quit Your Job Day, because "Today would be a great day to quit your job."

Monday. Yes, this Monday. We know you might be reading this on a weekend and it would be pretty hard to quit right now. You don't even have your bosses home phone number. At least we hope you don't. This Monday would be ideal, giving you the precious time you need to steel your nerves and to select from the variety of possible ways to quit. We feel Monday is probably the perfect day for you to quit.
